ABOUT THE BOOK
Russian for Indians has been prepared to be used as a text-book for teaching and learning Russian language for adults and young learners. It is meant for beginners, and it covers all the major topics of grammar which are taught to the beginners. After the Introductory part each lesson of the book has been divided into the following parts: 1) grammar with exercises, 2) text(s) and dialogue(s), 3) some phrases, 4) detailed exercises on texts, dialogues and grammar, 5) new vocabulary with meanings, 6) conjugation of verbs. There are, in all, twenty-five lessons in the book. After the twenty-fifth lesson some additional texts and poems have also been given. This is followed by Russian-English and English-Russian Vocabulary. The vocabulary is limited to about 1500 most essential words of Russian. At the end a consolidated list of verbs with their conjugations has been given. All the topics of grammar are accompanied by exercises to consolidate the topics covered. This book fulfills the long-felt need for an Indian text-book of Russian.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
The book Russian for Indians has been written by Professor Hem Chandra Pande who has more than four decades of experience of teaching Russian to beginners, first at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (Nashik, Maharashtra), and later in the Centre of Russian Studies (earlier known as Institute of Russian Studies), Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Hem Chandra Pande retired from service in the year 2005. He is well-known in the field of Russian language, and has made multifarious contribution to the study of Russian in India. He is admired for his Hindi translations of contemporary Russian prose. Beside translations Hem Chandra Pande has published a number of books and articles on linguistics, contrastive grammar, theory of translation, neurolinguistics, Russian Indology, lexicography, and Russian literature. He has also worked in the field of Russian-Hindi lexicography. This long experience of the author has been reflected in the present book which has been written keeping in mind the needs of adult and young learners.
