Yusuf and Esau are two cousins from Toledo who happily see the end of the war against Granada and, with it, the pacification of the entire peninsula, when they receive the news of the signing of the Decree expelling the Jews by the Catholic Monarchs. Each of the cousins will react differently. Yusuf decides to stay in his hometown, Toledo, and become a Christian, with all the consequences (surveillance of the Inquisition, etc.). Instead, Esau decides to leave, as many Sephardic Jews did in the summer of 1492.
