Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (Alcalá de Henares, September 1547 - Madrid, April 1616), Spanish novelist, poet and playwright, is considered the greatest figure in Spanish literature. Universally known, he is the author of El ingenioso hidalgo don Quixote de la Mancha. His life is a series of failures in which there is no shortage of captivity or unjust prison. He not only does not have enough income but also does not get the favor of the patrons. To this must be added a particular bad fortune that constantly haunts him. Only at the end of his life, after the success of his most distinguished novel, can he enjoy the recognition of his work.
