Pulse of time. Reading and discussing news in Russian. The textbook is intended for advanced level students (B2-C1) and is aimed at developing communicative competence. It consists of ten chapters describing the main areas of modern public life and the main headings of newspapers, such as “Foreign and Domestic Policy”, “Economy and Business”, “Social Security”, “Demography and Family”. “Science, modern technologies and the Internet”, “Culture and art”, “Environment and ecology”, “Natural disasters and catastrophes”, “Crime chronicles”, “Sports”. Various topics for discussion based on authentic texts selected from modern newspapers and journals are presented in each chapter. They are accompanied by exercises aimed at mastering language material and developing students’ oral speech. Keys are included with assignments and tests. Course duration is 160-200 academic hours.
