This book is designed for the basic level learners of the Korean language. It contains introduction to the Korean alphabets, word formation, sentence formation, basic grammatical rules through practice drills. The pronunciations are also indicated in Hindi for the benefit of Hindi speakers.

This book, written in clear and simple style, aims to guide the learners through 'Hands-on' exercises to develop basic level understanding of Korean language and its practical usage in diverse contexts. Practice drills and elaborated exercises are illustrated to help the learner internalize Korean language with proficiency in speaking, writing, reading and comprehension in an effective way.


Professor Kim, Do-young(Ph.D), the Honorary Director of Korean Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, had been associated with Jawaharlal Nehru University from the foundation of its degree programme, from the starts of PG Intensive Diploma and PG Intensive Advanced Diploma at University of Delhi and from the establishment of B.A., Certificate and Diploma courses at Jamia Millia Islamia. He has previously published eleven books on Korean Language, Literature, dictionaries and Hanja. His books emphasize on taking the Indian context into perspective and thus aim at helping beginners and advanced students alike to gain a better picture of the Korean. He is also a co-editor of annual publications of Researchers' Association for Study of Korean.

Prof. Ravikesh is a Professor of Korean Language and Literature and Chairperson of Centre for Korean Studies, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He is also the Chairperson of the "Special Centre for E-Learning" and "Alumni Affairs Office" at JNU. His area of interest and study include Korean language teaching, modern Korean literature, aesthetics, literary translation and E-Learning.
