Parricides, drunks, perverted children, blind husbands, ravishing idiots, cowardly and petty bourgeois, cruel and greedy peasants, you will find in these tales, day and night, only executioners or victims. But if they are all to be killed, they also kill a lot, or hang themselves, or at most shoot themselves in the mouth for fear of death... Would Maupassant be the great unknown ancestor of the neo- pole?
