        About The Book

The aim of teaching "Methods of Teaching Foreign (English) Language to Different Age Groups" is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to teach English as a second or foreign language to different age groups, mostly young learners. The book consists of sixteen chapters. Each chapter includes a statement of specific learning outcomes, references, and further reading. It also addresses key aspects of Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL). It begins with a description of who the "young learner" is and has chapters on first language acquisition, methods and approaches in language teaching, teaching listening, teaching speaking, teaching reading, teaching writing, teaching vocabulary, teaching grammar, and teaching pronunciation. Subsequent chapters provide information on learning styles and strategies, the affective domain, working with parents, resources and technology, support for language learning, classroom management, assessment, and evaluation.

        How to use the material

        1. Scan the chapter to gain a general overview of the content, focusing in particular on the objectives, which specify what you should know and be able to do by the end of the chapter

        2. Read the text for the chapter in detail. At various points in the text, you will come across "Reflect/Act" boxes. Complete the questions and tasks contained in the boxes as you come across them.

        3. The list of references at the end of each chapter will help to expand and extend knowledge and expertise on the relevant topic.

Teaching and learning English is easier, more interesting, more enjoyable, and more closely connected when there is a methodological guide to follow. The aim of this coursebook is to show how various methods and techniques are useful when we teach English/Foreign languages to different age groups

The target audience for this coursebook is undergraduate and postgraduate students in English language teaching departments. This coursebook is a unique resource for training BA and MA students of English language teaching in the area of Methods of Teaching Foreign (English) Language to Different Age Groups. The chapters cover various topics including "Young Learners," "Language Teaching Approaches and Methods," "Teaching Speaking," "Teaching Listening," "Teaching Reading," "Teaching Writing," "Working with Parents," "Assessment and Evaluation," and others. This coursebook, with its reflective sections and motivating exercises, can serve as a guidebook for in-service teacher training programs. In this way, the coursebook will help us achieve the goals of the Concept of Improving the Teaching of Foreign Languages in Turkmenistan, which was adopted on December 22, 2017, and the Concept of Teaching Methods at the Secondary Education Curriculum in Turkmenistan up to 2028

In this coursebook, Dr. Meretguly Gurbanov, Chemen Vekilova, and Kakajan Agajykov have made their huge contributions. All their efforts will have enormous implications for the Methods of Teaching Foreign (English) Language to Different Age Groups course at higher educational institutions (HEls), as it was a result of empirical study carried out at the Dowletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages.

Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Meretguly Gurbanov especially, and the team of authors. They have done an outstanding job creating this coursebook to deliver knowledge to the educational arena.
