Zadig is an oriental tale from 1748 about the search for happiness. The difficulty - and Voltaire tells us this with a smile - comes from the fact that happiness does not depend on us alone. Zadig, the hero, virtuous as no one, will thus have to go through trials. But, if the author traces the chaotic destiny of a character who does not have what he deserves, the ending seems happy however, as in all tales, and relieves us ... unless Voltaire is still playing we.
